How is this different from the SOC?
Monitoring answers "is it up and healthy?". The SOC answers "is someone attacking it?". Many clients start here and add the SOC later.
Does an agent need installing?
External checks need nothing installed. Internal health monitoring uses a small agent or your existing tooling.
